Jonathan Brown is the artistic director and conductor of Canto Deo a Christian community choir committed to singing sacred music. He has directed choirs and orchestras since 1974 and has run large church music programs in Colorado and California.

J. S. Bach – B Minor Mass, St. Matthew Passion and St. John Passion; Brahms – Ein Deutsches Requiem; Britten – A Ceremony of Carols; Beethoven – 9th Symphony. Fauré – Requiem; Handel – Messiah; Haydn – Creation; Mozart – Requiem, Te Deum, Mass in C Minor; Rutter – Requiem, Gloria, Magnificat; R. Vaughan Williams – Mass in G minor, Five Mystical Songs, Fantasia on Christmas Carols.
Jonathan is at home with the baton or as a singer and is called on frequently to sing baritone solos from the “classical” repertoire and “Gospel Music” – a product of his upbringing in the Pentecostal Church tradition.
His choirs have toured internationally and have performed in major Cathedrals and churches.

Germany: Weimar, St. Thomas Church (where Bach served) – Leipzig, Heilegeist Church – Heidelberg

England: Canterbury, Coventry, Yorkminster, Ely, and Winchester (he was acting precentor and guest music director for a week) Cathedrals.
Jonathan studied Gregorian Chant and received “The Interpretation of Gregorian Chant” at the Benedictine Abbey St. Pierre de Solesmes, France; he also studied chant at St. Meinrad Arch Abbey in Indiana and The Community of Jesus in Cape Cod.
Jonathan is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, Chorus America and sings in St. Martin’s Chamber Choir – a professional chamber choir located in Denver.
He holds a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Southern California.
Japanese Pianist Madoka Asari began studying the piano and music theory at age 4 at Yamaha Music School in Sapporo, Japan.
Madoka moved to the U.S. to study with her mentor Dr. Steven Mayer at University of Denver. Throughout her time at DU, Madoka received The Sarah C. Manion Award for Excellence in Piano, was runner-up in the Lamont Chamber Competition, and won 1st prize in the Lamont Solo Honor’s Competition, where she performed the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 2. Madoka has also been featured as a soloist with the Littleton Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonia of Greater Kansas City. In addition to her Piano Performance degrees, Madoka also worked extensively as a collaborative pianist for studios of various instruments. She performs in students’ recitals at DU and CU Boulder and Suzuki Strings Association Boulder.
Madoka currently lives in Boulder with her husband and a partner in music Andrew Brown, cellist. Madoka holds a Bachelor of Music degree from University of Denver, a Master of Music degree from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where she also worked as an Associate Instructor for Music Theory.
Connie Brown is an accomplished pianist who has played for ensembles, soloists, and choirs both in California where she was raised, and Colorado where she has lived since 1990. As a music instructor, she has extensive experience working with very young students in group settings and teaching individual students of varying ages and levels from her private piano studio. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from California State University, East Bay.
Mary Anne Chase
Mary Anne is a charter member of Canto Deo and has sung with Jonathan Brown since his arrival in Colorado in 1990.
Mary Anne is a retired dentist and currently works in an analytical laboratory in Castle Rock. As choir manager she keeps track of the membership, orders and supplies music and is responsible for communications. She also keeps the website up to date, records and edits the YouTube videos, as well as helping maintain other social media sites.
Mary Anne was raised in a musical household and sang in choirs as soon as she was old enough to carry a tune. She is also an accomplished flutist and has played with Canto Deo many times.
